Another Metro League season is complete!  A big congrats to all the girls on a great season. As the regular season has officially ended, the Chicago Romans Orange won the Scholastic Cup Regular Season Title, and Upper Fox Valley won the Founder’s Cup Regular Season Title!

The Scholastic Cup semi-finals featured two very exciting, close games – one low-scoring, the other quite the opposite. In the first game, the Chicago Romans Orange faced off against Loyola in a game that went back and forth the entire time. In the end the Romans came out victorious with a score of 1-0. In the second game, New Trier Blue and Barrington battled hard and New Trier took the win with a score of 6-4.  In the Founders Cup semi-finals, Upper Fox Valley beat the Grizzlies 6-1, and Lake Forest High School beat New Trier White in a thrilling game that was decided in the last seconds of the game. The final score was 3-2. Lake Forest killed a 5 on 3 penalty and then scored the GWG with 37 seconds left in the game.

The championship games were held on Sunday, February 13 at Lake Forest Academy. The Chicago Romans Orange took the Scholastic Cup, beating New Trier Blue 1-0. In the Founders Cup, Upper Fox Valley topped Lake Forest High School, winning the championships 6-2.

Congratulations to all on a wonderful season! Now we are onto State!

Other Interesting Tidbits

Upper Fox Valley reported that they had two players who are full-time goaltenders on their club teams skate out for the season. This is impressive in and of itself, but they both racked up some impressive stats as well!

Each took a turn or two in net when the primary goalie (freshman Allison Hojek) was unavailable, but they spent the majority of the season skating the length of the ice.  Senior Marissa Paaske minds the net for Chicago Mission U19, where she has played for the past two seasons.  She started her hockey career at 5 years old playing for the Crystal Lake Yellowjackets until she became the starting goalie for the D155 Predators her freshman and sophomore years.  This season was Marissa's first with Upper Fox Valley, where she managed to rack up an impressive 4 goals and 4 assists.  Sophomore Annabelle Bergman tends goal for the West Dundee Leafs U16 Central States Prospects team.  Annabelle has been a goaltender for the past five years, joining UFV just this season.  Annabelle, also, has found success as a skater, posted 2 goals and 4 assists for UFV this season.
